Indian Saag Paneer Recipe

Paneer Cheese in Spinach Puree

Indian Saag Paneer Recipe is one of a plethora of recipes on the internet.  This recipe comes from India and tastes as authentic as it gets in America.  Indian creamed spinach and cheesy paneer curry, no matter what I call it, it is an easy spinach curry dish. I always order in one of my favorite Indian restaurants!

Indian Saag Paneer Recipe

14 oz. paneer, cut into small cubes

Vegetable oil

1¾ lb. spinach, well washed and drained

Knob of ghee

4 oz. ghee or butter

1 teaspoon cumin seeds

2 to 3 cloves of garlic, peeled and finely chopped

2 teaspoons ground coriander

1 teaspoon red chili powder

Salt

4 oz. heavy cream

Fry the cubes of cheese in a little oil until they are golden on all sides, then put aside in a bowl.  Stir-fry the spinach with a knob of butter or ghee, then chop in a food processor. Set aside in a bowl.

Rise out of the pan and dry. Heat the ghee, add the cumin seeds and as they crackle stir in the chopped garlic and sauté until it is golden brown.

Add the coriander, chili powder, and spinach puree.  Season to taste with salt and cook for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring all the time.

Add the cubes of the paneer and simmer gently to heat through.  Stir in the cream and serve to pipe hot with fragrant basmati rice.
