Buttermilk Banana Bread

How I enjoy a nice warm piece of banana bread on a cold winter’s day. This is my tried and true recipe from years back when I started cooking at 19 years old. I started making it with soured milk, but I like the flavor of buttermilk now.

1/2 cup butter, softened

1/2 cup white sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar

2 eggs

2 cups AP flour

2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

3/4 teaspoons baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup buttermilk, or soured milk, 1/2 cup milk with 1 1/2 teaspoons vinegar

1 cup mashed bananas, mashed

Cream the butter with the sugars, and add the eggs and bananas, mix well. Add the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, vanilla, and buttermilk. Blend and place into a large loaf pan. Bake 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean from the center. Enjoy!
